Upon arrival at Chennai International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by our representative and whisked away to The Leela Palace Chennai, a prestigious hotel overlooking the Bay of Bengal.
After check-in, take some time to relax and unwind in your elegant Deluxe Room, designed to offer ultimate comfort and sophistication.
In the early evening meet up with your other travelling companions for a tour briefing with Donna over a welcome drink.

Day 2 – Saturday 24: Step into the Soul of Chennai…
After breakfast, step into the cultural and spiritual heart of Chennai with a leisurely guided heritage walk of Mylapore. Older than Chennai itself, Mylapore, is a neighbourhood steeped in history, mythology, and vibrant street life.
First, visit the Sabareeshwara Temple, an architectural gem dedicated to Lord Shiva, where intricate Dravidian carvings and daily rituals bring the temple to life. Then it’s time to stroll through Kutchery Road, lined with flower vendors, small artisan shops, and traditional homes that echo the city’s rich heritage.
Along the way enjoy a much-earned break in a traditional South Indian coffee house, with a chance to savour a steaming cup of filter coffee, a local favourite.
Then explore the San Thome Basilica, a stunning neo-Gothic church built over the tomb of St. Thomas, one of Jesus’ apostles.
After an insightful day spent on your feet exploring the living heritage of Chennai, return to the Leela Palace for your welcome dinner.

Day 3 – Sunday 25: A Taste of Tradition & The Art of Dance…
After a relaxed morning, immerse yourself in the rich culinary and artistic heritage of Chennai with a vegetarian ilaisappadu lunch followed by an enchanting Dance performance.
Step into the nostalgic charm of Paatti Veedu, where traditional Tamil vegetarian cuisine is served on a banana leaf (ilaisappadu). This authentic South Indian meal is a sensory journey for the taste buds, featuring a carefully curated multi-course feast of rice, lentils, vegetable curries, pickles, and freshly made sweets. Each dish is rooted in age -old Tamil cooking traditions, celebrating the flavours of home-style Tamil Brahmin cuisine.

Late afternoon, dive into the expressive world of Indian classical dance with Dancescapes, an immersive experience showcasing the grace, storytelling, and rhythm of Bharatanatyam and other traditional dance forms. This performance, set against a visually stunning backdrop, narrates ancient mythologies, emotions, and movements passed down through generations.
Engage with dancers to understand the intricate expressions (mudras), musical rhythms, and the philosophy behind Indian classical dance.

Day 4 – Monday 26: Journey Through Art, Heritage & Coastal Wonders
This morning it is time to check out from the hotel and embark on a scenic journey travelling south from Chennai to Pondicherry.
Along the way exploring Dakshin Chitra’s living heritage, the awe-inspiring temples of Mahabalipuram, and the tranquil charm of the French Quarter in Pondicherry.
After breakfast, drive along the picturesque East Coast Road (ECR), one of South India’s most scenic coastal highways. En route, explore some of Tamil Nadu’s most fascinating cultural and historical gems.
Continue southward to Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram), a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning rock-cut temples and sculptures. Visit the Seashore Temple, a spectacular 8th-century structure overlooking the Bay of Bengal. Explore Pancha Rathas (Five Rathas), monolithic rock-cut chariots with intricate carvings. Admire Arjuna’s Penance, a massive rock relief depicting scenes from the Mahabharata.
Enjoy lunch at a Beachside Café and savour the fresh coastal cuisine flavours with views of the ocean.

Day 5 – Tuesday 27: Auroville’s Vision and Music

Begin the day with a journey into Auroville, an experimental township founded in 1968 with the vision of universal harmony beyond caste, creed, and nationality.
Experience a deep connection with nature and food over an organic farm-to-table lunch at Solitude Farm, hosted by Krishna, a long-time Auroville resident and expert in natural farming and permaculture. Enjoy a fresh, seasonal, plant-based meal made from ingredients grown on the farm.
Delve into the transformative power of sound and rhythm at Svaram, an innovative musical centre in Auroville. Experience hands-on sessions with indigenous musical instruments, sound healing tools, and intuitive compositions. Learn about the science of sound therapy and its deep-rooted connections with Indian spiritual traditions.

Day 6 – Wednesday 28: Potter around Pondicherry
After breakfast it is time for a private guided walk into the French Quarters Walk in Pondicherry (also known as White Town). Wander through cobbled lanes shaded by bougainvillea-draped villas, brightly painted in pastel hues. The French Quarters reflect a legacy of Indo-French history, with elegant colonial buildings, art galleries, chic cafés, and serene spiritual centres
Admire mustard-yellow and white colonial buildings with tall windows, arched doorways, and wrought-iron balconies—many converted into boutique hotels, cafes, or art spaces. Step into the Notre Dame des Anges Church, a beautiful Roman Catholic building with Greco-Roman architecture, featuring delicate interiors and a serene ambiance. Then embrace the peace and tranquillity of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a retreat founded by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, which attracts followers from around the world. It is a special place of silence, discipline, and reflection.
After the guided walk you can wander back to the hotel, along the sea facing Promenade or potter around the shops and boutiques showcasing local artists and designers, then unwind at a local café for a croissant or a cup of artisanal coffee.

Day 7 – Thursday 29: The Forgotten Chola Capital
Today embark on a journey deep into Tamil Nadu’s temple heartland, where centuries-old Chola architecture, and artistic traditions come alive.
After breakfast, depart for Thanjavur a town known for its ancient temples, rich cultural traditions, and classical music heritage. The scenic drive through Tamil Nadu’s countryside is dotted with paddy fields, coconut groves, and traditional villages.
Visit Gangai Konda Chola Puram, an architectural marvel built by Rajendra Chola I in the 11th century, once the capital of the powerful Chola dynasty. Marvel at the grand Shiva temple, often compared to the Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur. Admire the intricate stone carvings and sculptural mastery reflecting the peak of Chola artistry. Observe the temple’s massive Nandi statue and sacred sanctum, exuding an aura of divine grandeur.
After lunch visit the iconic Brihadeeswarar Temple, one of India’s greatest architectural wonders. Built by Raja Raja Chola I in the 11th century, this massive temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is an engineering marvel. Witness the gigantic granite dome, which remains a mystery in construction due to its enormous weight. Admire the frescoes, murals, and stone sculptures that depict the grandeur of Chola rule.

Day 8 – Friday 30: Journey into the Timeless Elegance of Chettinad…
After breakfast we will be able to get up close to Tanjore Paintings, one of India’s most revered classical art forms. Learn about the origins and evolution of these gold-embellished masterpieces, deeply rooted in Chola history. The paintings often depict Hindu deities and are a significant part of South Indian culture. Meet in person master artisans who will guide you through the process of layering, embossing, and intricate detailing.
Later, observe the art of Bronze casting in Thanjavur (Tanjore), one of the most celebrated traditional art forms of South India, with roots going back over 1,000 years.
After an early lunch, embark on a scenic drive through Tamil Nadu’s countryside, passing through lush paddy fields, ancient temples, and traditional villages before arriving in Chettinad, home to the legendary Nattukottai Chettiar community.
Nestled in the heart of Tamil Nadu, Chettinad is a region renowned for its palatial mansions, rich cultural heritage, and legendary cuisine. Beyond its opulent mansions, the region offers a glimpse into traditional Tamil village life, where artisans craft handmade tiles, wood carvings and fine silk. Chettinad is equally celebrated for its bold and aromatic cuisine, featuring fiery pepper-based curries, flavourful biryanis, and delicately spiced meat dishes
Check in at Chidambara Vilas – a meticulously restored Chettinad mansion and living museum of heritage and grandeur, built by wealthy Chettiar merchants in the 19th and early 20th Centuries.
Visit the Palatial Chettinad Mansions, showcasing a blend of Indian, European, and Burmese influences, adorned with imported Italian marble, Belgian chandeliers, and handcrafted furniture. Learn about the athangudi tiles, the region’s famous handmade terracotta floor tiles, crafted using age-old techniques. Today is all about hands-on craftsmanship and cultural immersion, as you explore one of Chettinad’s most iconic art forms—the creation of Athangudi tiles.
After breakfast, visit Athangudi village, the heart of handcrafted tile production in Chettinad, where artisans continue the century-old tradition of making vibrant, patterned terracotta tiles. Witness the intricate process of tile-making, where coloured cement, glass powder, and natural dyes are expertly poured into handmade metal moulds. Learn about the unique craftsmanship that gives Athangudi tiles their glossy finish and durability, making them a signature element of Chettinad’s architectural heritage. Try your hand at creating your own tile, guided by expert artisans who have perfected this craft over generations.
Return to Chidambara Vilas and savour a scrumptious home-cooked Chettinad meal.
After lunch spend your afternoon exploring the bustling markets of Karaikudi town which offers insights into local crafts, spices, and textiles.

Day 11 – Monday 02 : Into the Heart of Madurai – Temples & Heritage…
Step into the ancient city of Madurai, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in India, known for its rich history, stunning temples, and deep-rooted traditions. Today’s journey takes you through the city’s heritage and vibrant market.
After breakfast, depart for Madurai, a journey of approximately 2.5 hours, passing through the picturesque Tamil countryside, bustling villages, and temple towns.
Madurai is a city that breathes history, mythology, and grandeur. On this immersive walking tour, uncover its ancient alleyways, colourful bazaars, and centuries-old monuments.
Visit the Meenakshi Amman Temple, a historic Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi (a form of Parvati) and her consort, Lord Sundareswarar (a form of Shiva) is a masterpiece of Dravidian architecture adorned with towering gopurams (temple towers), intricate carvings, and vibrant sculptures.
Lunch is at a local restaurant.
Afternoon at leisure at your hotel or visit the local market of Madurai.
Evening Option: Re-visit the temple for the “putting to bed” ceremony, is a significant nightly ritual at the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai. During this ceremony, the idol of Lord Sundareswarar (a form of Shiva) is ceremoniously carried in a palanquin to the shrine of Goddess Meenakshi, symbolizing the divine couple’s union for the night. This ritual underscores the temple’s central theme of the sacred marriage between Meenakshi and Sundareswarar.
